Thank You - Pride Talks 2024

Since its inception in 2022, Framework Leadership's Pride Talks has emerged as a vital program advocating for Queer inclusion and representation in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries. This employer engagement initiative emphasizes the importance of creating safe and supportive workplaces for Queer professionals while fostering allyship and awareness.

The initial Pride Talk laid the foundation for discussions around equity, diversity, and inclusion, with insights grounded in industry-specific research. The program has successfully reached over 5,000 industry professionals across Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with nine employers and two non-profit organizations participating in its debut year.

Building on this momentum, Pride Talks expanded in 2023 and 2024, attracting more than thirty organizations to engage in the conversation. This year's series kicked off with an inspiring keynote by celebrated designer Adam Nathaniel Furman, who addressed the concept of Queer Spaces and shared insights from their extensive career in design. Furman's presentation highlighted the significance of safe spaces for Queer individuals and challenged traditional notions of public design.

Pride Talks has always aimed to reflect the diversity and intersectionality of Queer communities, moving beyond the predominant narratives often centered on white cis-gendered gay men. Each speaker brings unique perspectives, addressing various aspects of Queer identities, from representation to workplace culture. The lineup of speakers for this year represented topics that resonate with Queer experiences.

Attendees have praised the sessions for their relevance and impact. For instance, one attendee highlighted Allie Kennington's talk on supporting transgender and gender non-conforming professionals, noting how it echoed their lived experiences and educated others. Another participant remarked on the engaging and informative nature of the presentations, which not only fostered awareness but also encouraged meaningful conversations about creating inclusive work environments.

Pride Talks also underscores its commitment to giving back to Queer communities through financial contributions. This year, a portion of the revenue was donated to organizations like The ArQuives in Canada and Queer Britain Museum in the United Kingdom, both dedicated to preserving and sharing 2SLGBTQIA+ histories and artifacts.

As the program continues to grow, its impact resonates throughout the industry. Pride Talks has established itself as a trusted initiative, enhancing Queer representation and fostering an inclusive culture in workplaces. By engaging over thirty organizations and reaching thousands of professionals, it is not just a series of discussions but a movement toward lasting change.

Framework Leadership expresses gratitude to all individuals and organizations that have participated in Pride Talks over the years. What began as a simple online session has transformed into a powerful platform for Queer voices, enabling Queer professionals to share their stories and experiences. Together, the program strives to create opportunities for visibility and support, contributing to a more inclusive industry for current and future generations.
